Many women are excited about being pregnant. Some will tell friends and family straight away, while others will wait for the first trimester to pass. Many will buy things for baby as the months roll by, getting ready for their baby’s arrival.
But when it comes to actual labour and the day that their baby will be born, a lot of women will put their trust into the health system; write a birth plan because their midwives asked them to, without really knowing the choices available to them or the risks and benefits of what certain decisions may mean. In recent years women are seeking out hypnobirthing classes, as a full antenatal preparation class, which not only teaches them the physical side of what is happening to the body during labour, but also teaches them tools and techniques to manage labour more efficiently and calmly. So what is hypnobirthing? Hypnobirthing is a tried and tested method that prepares a woman in giving birth in a peaceful and natural way, often without the need for medical intervention. Women who hypnobirth learn special breathing techniques, relaxation, visualisation and meditative practice that help them stay relaxed in labour, and as a result tend to have an easier and shorter labour. Why choose hypnobirthing for your baby’s birth? Women who have chosen to learn, practice and use hypnobirthing during labour found that hypnobirthing: 1.Encourages the birth experience to be natural, calm and comfortable 2.Allows the mother to feel more alert and in control 3.Gives them the tools to manage the intensity of labour, often resulting in not needing any pain relief at all (or less than what she thought she might need) 4.Helps the birthing partner to be actively involved and feel that they have played an important role in the birth 5.Lessens the physical impact of childbirth, as the techniques encourage the mother to work with her body gently 6.Results in shorter labours 7.Allows the baby to be born in a calm, gentle and drug-free atmosphere What to expect in a hypnobirthing class: You will come away understanding how the body and mind work together; appreciating that the mind is much more powerful than we realise. You will also be taught:
Birthing partners are strongly encouraged to attend classes. During a hypnobirthing course, your partner will learn alongside you. You will both learn breathing, relaxation and visualisation techniques, which you should practice regularly together at home, so that it's easy for you to bring them to mind when you need them. The ideal time to start classes is any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This will allow you ample time to practise. If you're already past this stage, don't be put off. You can still benefit from classes in your last weeks of pregnancy as the techniques are simple to understand and easy to practice. Romford Hypnobirthing offers regular group courses or private classes to couples every month. To find out more visit www.romfordhypnobirthing.com or call on 01708 578 013.
